“Whose Science Is It Anyway?!’ (WSIIA)

‘Surely ‘science’ is just something we’re made to learn in school to pass our exams? A bunch of facts from a dry textbook memorised and then forgotten. Or the other extreme - fast paced fiction from a Hollywood imagination. Sexy media spin dazzling us with action packed make-believe. Is there any truth in Terminator? Are we really supposed to believe in Dolly The Sheep? Caught between headlines, media hype and indecipherable science-speak. What’s a person to do? Who should we believe and why should we bother?’

WSIIA allowed the young people to pose the questions above, and to find the answers along the way.
This was performed at The Centre For Life to celebrate the conclusion of National Science Week on March 21st 2003 drawing a really good audience made up of family & friends of NTYT and curious passers-by. It was then performed at the Hatton Gallery at Newcastle University as part of the Annual Healthcare and Ethics conference. After this performance the youth theatre then mingled with the delegates talking to them about their work, about issues raised by the piece, and about the participants’ own experiences and ambitions.
