I saw this production at the Chelsea Centre early on in it’s run. The venue was intimate, probably holding 100.
I enjoyed the production very much – one of those shows which got better and better as it went on. The core `basics’ were done well – good storytelling, strong engagement with the audience (who loved the show), bright and sparky design. But what really stays with me is the following:
Strong, light touch and original characters – I’m remembering a very drole donkey who delighted young and old audiences alike. The acting was uniformly strong and I could tell that there was a strong `core’ of performers who had worked for the company before.
Great music and song. I found the music of the show high quality, catchy, accessible and beautiful.
Happy and uplifting without being trite. I felt that the audience were taken on a meaningful and joyful journey, one which they would remember, as I have done.
